Network Rail’s Signalling Innovations Group develops and delivers new tools, methods, techniques and processes that will reduce the cost and timescales of renewing and upgrading signalling systems, and supports projects in the introduction of new signalling and other products.
SIG holds a technical conference every year in which interested companies, both large and small, are invited to participate. The most recent, held in York last November, attracted 13 exhibitors and representatives from 53 supply chain companies as well as Network Rail attendees who heard speakers talk on topics as diverse as the Digital Railway, Control Period 6, asset management, safety and how data underpins future developments.
As well as signalling, SIG is involved in technical innovations across Network Rail, from the Digital Railway to telecommunications and electrification, while tools and methods that started out from a signalling need are now utilised across a range of disciplines.
